Front end

Front end repair, shocks and struts, then an alignment that holds

Steering parts, shocks, struts and alignments handled together at 1706 W Broadway Ave in Moses Lake, so the vehicle tracks straight and the tires wear evenly.

Pulling, a crooked wheel and tires that wear on one edge

Most front end trouble starts quietly. The vehicle drifts to one side on a flat road. The steering wheel sits off center when you are driving straight. The tires start wearing on one shoulder. Worn tie rods, ball joints and steering racks add looseness you feel as a clunk, and worn shocks and struts show up as bounce after a bump or a nose that dives when you brake.

An alignment alone cannot fix a loose or worn part, because the settings will not hold. That is the trap in treating alignment as a standalone service, and it is why Total Auto Care lists front end repairs, alignments, shocks and struts together.

Inspect the front end first, then align it to spec

The sequence in the bay is simple: look at the steering and suspension parts, replace what is worn, then set the alignment to spec on the rack. ASE-certified master technicians do the inspection with the latest diagnostic equipment, and ongoing training keeps their methods current.

Heavier work gets the same treatment. One Google reviewer described a 2007 Cummins 5.9 that came back with a complete rebuild of the front end and new motor mounts, among a long list of other work. Fleet trucks and work vehicles need the same care as a daily driver, and they tend to wear their front ends faster.

The estimate is free. Call (509) 765-7863, describe the pull or the noise, and the shop will tell you what to expect before any parts come off.

A pothole, a curb or a new set of tires: come back for a check

Alignment is not a one-time event. A hard pothole, a curb strike or a set of new tires is a good reason to have it checked, and the same goes after any front end part is replaced. Doing it right after the parts go on protects the tires you just paid for.

Repairs at Total Auto Care carry a full parts and labor warranty for 12 months and a 12,000-mile nationwide warranty. A shuttle service and text updates mean you do not have to wait in the lobby while the vehicle is on the rack.

What the steering wheel is telling you

  1. It pulls

Let go of the wheel on a flat road and the vehicle drifts to one side.

  2. The wheel sits crooked

You are driving straight and the steering wheel is not centered.

  3. Bounce and nose dive

The vehicle keeps moving after a bump, or the nose drops hard when you brake. Think shocks and struts.

  4. A clunk in the steering

A knock over bumps or while turning in the lot usually means a worn front end part.

Uneven wear is also a tire question, and the story of the shop explains why alignment, tires, transmissions and engines all sit under one roof.
